Malawi produces the fantastically unique and beautiful rutile amethyst. As jewelry designers, VirtuGem US team, Susan and Jess fell in love with the tiny threads forming patterns in the amethyst and the gem's lilac hues. We brought rutile amethyst to the US and Europe jewelry designers in 2021 when it was being sold by a Malawian woman gem traders.  The Malawi gem cutters began to practice their art with rutile amethyst and cut great one of a kind pieces.  Now the demand for Rutile Amethyst in China is making this gem material harder and harder for us to find.
